Skyline High
School Boy’s Swim Team Rules
The following policies will be in effect for the 2009-2010
swimming season
Athletic Handbook
The student athlete must understand the criteria set forth in
the Ann Arbor Skyline Athletic Department Policy and Procedures Manual. Highlights from the handbook are:
- EXCELLENCE
IS EXPECTED! This vision applies to
academics, athletics, ethics and citizenship.
- A
current physical must be on record with the school.
- A $30
participation fee is required.
- In
order to swim, a student must meet the requirement for credit in 4 classes
with a 2.0 g.p.a.
- Possession
or use of drugs, alcohol, and/or tobacco products is prohibited and will
result in disciplinary action resulting in suspension and/or dismissal
from the team. The penalties and
due process for this type of violation is detailed in the procedures
manual.
- Music
is a curricular activity for which conflicts may provide an excused
absence.
Team Rules
- Participation
at all weekday afternoon and Saturday practices is mandatory.
- Participation
at all weekday morning practices is optional.
- Participation
at all meets is mandatory.
- An
unexcused meet absence will result in dismissal from the team.
- All
student athletes must ride the bus to meets, but may go home with their
parents (only).
- An
unexcused practice absence will result in suspension from competition
until it is made up by swimming an optional morning practice.
- To
obtain an excused absence, the athlete must contact the coach regarding
sickness, major conflict, school priorities, etc. prior to the
missed practice.
- A
student-athlete with a potential large number of absences due to special
circumstances related to things such as religious, student government,
medical and music obligations, etc. will need to identify ALL conflicts
prior to the start of the season in order to remain in good standing. Family vacations are not a special
circumstance.
- Suspensions
and after school detentions will be counted as an unexcused absence.
- Three
unexcused absences will result in dismissal from the team.
- Student
athletes must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0
in order to be eligible to compete. Athletes with a g.p.a.
lower than 2.0 are still expected to practice.
- Student
athletes are required to participate in the team community service
activity or else arrange for an alternative activity prior to the
completion of the season.
General Behavior
- Student-athletes
are expected to represent themselves, coach, team, and school by acting
with dignity at all times. A
positive attitude about participation, training, and competition is
required. Student-athletes failing
to represent behavior guidelines will be recommended to the athletic
director for dismissal from the team.
