Ann Arbor Skyline boys swimming finishes second at Howell, takes home program's first trophy

The Skyline High School boys swimming team took home its first trophy in program history after finishing second at Howell's Clash of the Underclassmen on Saturday.

The meet featured freshmen and sophomore swimmers from established varsity programs, an ideal matchup for a Skyline team that competes with only freshmen and sophomores on its roster.

"We had a great meet," Skyline coach Sean Hickman said. "Last year at this invitational we were last place. We swam pretty good across the board. It was by far our best showing in an invitational."

The Eagles' best finises were third-place efforts by Chris Mukasa (50 freestyle) and Dennis Dahlman (500 freestyle). Those two swimmers were also part of the Eagles third-place 200 freestyle relay team.

Host Hartland won the nine-team event with 278 points, followed by Skyline (254), South Lyon (225) and host Howell (218).

Skyline's 200 medley relay -- which Mukasa was also part of -- finished fourth in a MISCA meet-qualifying time of 1:52.00. Dahlman's 500 freestyle time of 5:20.77 also earned him a spot in the MISCA meet.
