2010 SUMMER

SKYLINE SWIMMING AND WATER POLO CALENDAR

June 14 July 22 - Great Lakes Water Polo will run its summer program Monday  Thursday in the evening.   For more information please visit the Great Lakes website at (www.greatlakeswaterpolo.com ).  It is important that everyone participate.  Great Lakes is the top water polo priority for returning Skyline Water Polo players this summer.

Mid June – Late July -  Fuller, Club Wolverine and summer club swim season.  Swimming at Fuller or for Club Wolverine is the top priority for returning Skyline Swimmers this summer.

June 22  -  July 22  from 6 – 7:30. Monday – Thursday Practice at Skyline for incoming freshman, new players and for both returning boys and girls water polo players who absolutely can’t play Great Lakes Water Polo.  Swim clinics by Coach Sean will be on Monday and Wednesday and Water Polo skill and strategy sessions led by Coach Ben will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  The cost for the swim clinics will be $50 and the cost for the water polo clinics will be an additional $50.  We will have a week break between July 2 and July 9 due to MHSAA rules.

Mid June – Late July  The Skyline women’s swim coach, Maureen Isaac will be running a dryland program for swimmers right before the water polo and swim clinics from 4:30 – 5:45.  Combining the swim and water polo clinics with the dryland training is a great way to prepare for the upcoming swim and water polo seasons. Please contact Rec and Ed for the details and costs for the dryland training.

June 25 – June 27  16 and under  Water Polo Junior Olympic qualifying tournament.  Several Skyline Water Polo players have been invited to join the Great Lakes Junior Olympic team that will participate in the JO Qualifying Tournament in hopes of qualifying for JO’s by finishing in the top four team.

July 18 - 23 - We would like to encourage everyone to attend the U of M Water Polo Camp.  Last year the cost was $375 for the week if you commuted to the camp and $575 of you were a resident at the camp.  If we have more than 6 kids participate U of M will give everyone from Skyline a $25 discount.  Last year we had 6 players attend this camp and we hope to double the number this year.  Please do everything that you can to attend.  U of M will be posting information about the camp on its website shortly at http://www.mgoblue.com/camps/.

August 17th  First Day of Fall Water Polo Practice We can start as early as August 11 but since we train in the summer and due to the timing of  Band Camp we will start on the 17th to give everyone a nice break.  You must complete your sports physical before you start practice.

August 22 -  We will participate in the open water swim organized by Eva Solomon

Summer Vacations -   From swimming and water polo's perspective the best times for summer vacations are the first week after school, July 2 – July 9, and from August 4 – August 16.  I realize that family reunions and other important events take precedence over water polo and swimming but if at all possible please try to schedule your vacations, camps etc. during these times.

General Note:  Physicals performed after April 15 can count as physicals for fall sports.  Please contact Skyline or visit the Skyline website for the proper paperwork, have the doctor fill it out and hold onto until August when the fall sports season starts.
